Challenger trophy was the perfect platform for Saurav Ganguly. He was allowed to open too.. All he had to do was make two 50+ scores. With Sehwag's form and Dravid's flop show as an opener, that was all he needed.

But he scored just 24 and 3. If Ganguly cant score 50s against Indian bowlers, there is no way he can handle Australian, Pakistani, South African, Kiwi or even England bowlers playing as an opener for India.

Its very easy saying things like 'I will score centuries and centuries till selectors decide to pick me'.. Very difficult doing it. India needs an opener!! But if he is just going to score 20 odd, then its better to give a new guy (someone like Gambhir) a chance who can score as much but with a chance of improving with time.
